Be a Political Journalist!

I'm very excited because yesterday a delivery truck came and brought boxes and boxes and boxes full of the "Letter to Congress" issue of New Moon! I also sent all the web content off to our web designer, so the "Letter to Congress" website should be up at the beginning of January. Make sure to watch your mailboxes for the arrival of this special issue!

Although we've been working on "Letter to Congress" since July, the real excitement is just beginning. We hope the issue will inspire a wave of action around girls' issues. One way to keep the momentum for this issue going is to follow up on the many topics covered in "Letter to Congress"-- from girls' health to animal rights to free speech on the internet.

This is where YOU come in! When you read the "Letter to Congress" issue, pay attention to any issue that really sparks your interest. Then, consider becoming a political journalist blogger for New Moon. As a political journalist blogger, you would pay attention to news and legislation regarding a certain issue. When a bill stalled, got passed, or modified, you'd let New Moon know so we can post it to our blog and keep all our readers updated on the progress of issues addressed in "Letter to Congress." Of course, you'll get a byline (credit) for all your updates!

If you're interested in reporting on political issues, email girl@newmoon.org !

This is so cool! I think it is important for every one (especially girls!) to take part in political issues. Personally, I think that to know where you stand, is really important. Is pretty much to know who you are. Where I stand right now I in activism, social rights and envierment related issues. So, always keep up your chin and never stop for what you belive in! Is my advice.

I love the cover design, it just bothers me how it's all about America on the cover. There are two American flags! I know that the GEB and staff is located in america, but there are many girls who read from different countries. I'm from Canada.

Oh, I can't wait!!! Good point, 2nd annonymous. They should put lot's of flags on there. I really like envoromental politics, too, 1st annonymuos. I like politics, but we just had an issue on politics, (sep.-Oct. 2006) should we really have 2 in a row??

The GEB actually had the same discussion about putting world flags on the cover. The reason we and the artist decided not to do it is because we think it's really important for this issue to grab the attention of U.S. Congresspeople, and the patriotic theme seemed like a good way to do that. There's still international content within the magazine, like Global Village from Israel, an article and poetry from Canadian girls, and an article about foreign policy.

Oh, I'm so excited! It's New Year's Eve and I thought I'd check in on the New Moon Blog. I knew the Letter to Congress issue is ready to hit the stands--but this is the first time I've seen the finished cover. What a way to ring in the new year! Happy 2007, New Mooners!
Love,
Heather
